Terms and Conditions

The House Residency is a membership program for people interested in learning about, experiencing, and contributing to the vision of beautiful business. It is run by the House of Beautiful Business, a global think tank and community platform by The Business Romantic Society Verwaltungs GmbH.
1. Scope of Services
The year-long membership program, called “House Residency,” gives members, referred to as “Residents”, full access to content and experiences they can use to connect, learn, and collaborate, and attendance (one place) at the annual House of Beautiful Business gathering in Lisbon. During their year-long membership, Residents receive the following services on a regular basis:
Events
Residents have the right to attend and are given one place at the House of Beautiful Business annual gathering in Lisbon. The membership fee does include the ticket price for the event but not accommodation or travel.
Residents receive early notifications and discount rates for events hosted by the House of Beautiful Business.
Residents are invited to attend and host private events for fellow Residents. The House Residency serves as a platform to promote these events.
Aside from the annual House of Beautiful Business gathering, Residency does not grant Residents a guaranteed spot at any other House of Beautiful Business or events hosted by fellow Residents. Attendance of these other events is always subject to a ticket purchase (in addition to the membership fee) or RSVP process.
Content
Residents can attend live (and watch archived recordings of) online lectures featuring House experts, guest speakers, and fellow Residents.
Residents may host online lectures for fellow Residents, enabled by the House team and Residency.
Residents receive a members-only version of the bi-weekly Beauty Shot email newsletter.
Residents receive one print publication per year, included in the membership fee.
Projects
Residents have the opportunity to contribute to beautiful business projects and initiatives by the House and fellow House Residents, as well as introduce their own.
The House team will ensure visibility for these projects and share updates and results with Residents.
The House Residency serves as a platform to promote these projects.
Special Partner Offers
Residents may receive special offerings provided by partners of the House of Beautiful Business.
Communications
Residents have access to a shared online calendar that includes all activities of the membership program.
Residents have access to a dedicated community manager who is a staff member of The Business Romantic Society GmbH & Co. KG and assists with questions and requests around the membership program.
2. Membership
Eligibility
The House Residency is open to every applicant interested in the vision of beautiful business and committed to contributing to and actively engaging with the House community. We will review each application within two weeks. If approved, applicants will be notified via email and can then sign up for a one-year House Residency via the House of Beautiful Business website (www.houseofbeautifulbusiness.com) by paying a one-year membership fee via credit card, PayPal, or wire transfer. By submitting their application form to the House Residency, they agree and consent to the rules of the Residency.
Duration
The House Residency is valid exactly one year from the day of purchase. It does not automatically renew. The House of Beautiful Business team will contact the Resident a few weeks before the expiration date of their House Residency with an invitation to renew their membership unless the House of Beautiful Business decides not to grant an invitation to renew the membership. The decision of the House of Beautiful Business is final and without appeal.
Termination
Residents are free to resign from their membership at any time, in which case we will not reimburse them for their annual membership fee unless the Resident resigns due to violation of the membership contractual responsibilities borne by the House. In case Residents wish to resign, they need to contact the House of Beautiful Business team at membership@thebusinessromanticsociety.com.
The House of Beautiful Business can decide to terminate the membership of a Resident at any point and at our sole discretion. If the House of Beautiful Business terminates a membership before its regular expiration, we will reimburse the Resident for their annual membership fee unless the House terminates the membership due to a violation of the contractual responsibilities by Resident or a violation of the membership code of conduct by Resident.
Amendments
It is within the discretion of the House of Beautiful Business to amend the annual Residency fee at any time. We will notify Residents in written form before the expiration of their membership if there are to be any changes to the amount, date, or frequency of the payment of membership fees for the forthcoming membership period. Should we decide to change the annual Residency fee for the ongoing membership period, we will give Residents the right to terminate their membership immediately and will reimburse them for the remaining membership period pro rata.
3. Data
We adhere to the strictest confidentiality standards and pledge to maintain all records and personal information concerning Residents in the strictest confidence. We will never give their data to any third party without their permission, including fellow Residents. The personal information applicants and Residents provide in connection with their application and membership will be stored and processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
4. Code of Conduct
Residents interact in a spirit of curiosity, open-mindedness, respect, and tolerance. The House of Beautiful Business does not tolerate any harassment in any form. Residents agree to respect confidentiality and refrain from the solicitation of commercial services and any salesmanship. The House of Beautiful Business reserves the right to immediately terminate the membership of Residents who violate these rules.
If the House of Beautiful Business, at its absolute discretion, considers that any Resident’s conduct is contrary to the interests of the House of Beautiful Business, we may with immediate effect terminate that membership.
5. Limitations and Exclusions of Liability
5.1 Nothing in these terms and conditions will:
(a) limit or exclude any liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence;
(b) limit or exclude any liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
(c) limit any liabilities in any way that is not permitted under applicable law; or
(d) exclude any liabilities that may not be excluded under applicable law.
5.2 The limitations and exclusions of liability set out in this section and elsewhere in these terms and conditions:
(a) are subject to Section 5.1; and
(b) govern all liabilities arising under these terms and conditions or relating to the subject matter of these terms and conditions, including liabilities arising in contract, in tort (including negligence) and for breach of statutory duty, except to the extent expressly provided otherwise in these terms and conditions.
5.3 To the extent that the information and services on our website are provided free of charge, we will not be liable for any loss or damage of any nature.
5.4 We will not be liable to you in respect of any losses arising out of any event or events beyond our reasonable control.
5.5 We will not be liable to you in respect of any business losses, including (without limitation) loss of or damage to profits, income, revenue, use, production, anticipated savings, business, contracts, commercial opportunities, or goodwill.
5.6 We will not be liable to you in respect of any loss or corruption of any data, database, or software.
5.7 We will not be liable to you in respect of any special, indirect or consequential loss, or damage.
5.8 You accept that we have an interest in limiting the personal liability of our officers and employees and, having regard to that interest, you acknowledge that we are a limited liability entity; you agree that you will not bring any claim personally against our officers or employees in respect of any losses you suffer in connection with our services or these terms and conditions (this will not, of course, limit or exclude the liability of the limited liability entity itself for the acts and omissions of our officers and employees).
6. House of Beautiful Business Trademark Rights
Residents are welcome to mention their status as a House Resident on websites and social media profiles. The House Residency does however not give them the right to use the name, logo, or other identifying features of the House of Beautiful Business for any events, projects, content publishing, or other commercial and non-commercial initiatives without obtaining our specific prior written approval as to the specific use.
7. Amendments to Membership Rules
The House of Beautiful Business may change the membership rules from time to time. In this case, we will notify Residents via email as well as display the latest version of our House membership rules on this website. In the case of changes to the membership rules, Residents will have the right to resign from their membership, with the House reimbursing them for the remaining membership period pro rata.
Adjustments for House Residencies purchased in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic
Due to the continuing COVID-19 crisis, this year’s annual gathering of the House of Beautiful Business in Lisbon, “The Great Wave,” cannot take place in person as planned. To honor the trust and commitment of all Residents who bought or will buy their House Residency in 2020 we are making the following adjustments to their membership.
We will extend the Resident’s membership (House Residency) until December 31, 2021.
The extended House Residency will include our Lisbon 2021 gathering in the fall 2021 (exact dates and details TBC).
All other benefits of the Residency, including access to exclusive content and other services, remain valid.
Residents who buy their House Residency in 2020 before October 16 will also receive a complimentary ticket to The Great Wave, a happening taking place virtually and via smaller in-person gatherings at more than 20 local hubs from October 16-19, 2020, across the globe. In addition, they will receive five complimentary tickets that they can give to friends or colleagues.
8. Assignment
By becoming a member of House Residency, Residents agree that we may assign, transfer, sub-contract, or otherwise deal with our rights and/or obligations under these terms and conditions.
9. Entire Agreement
These terms and conditions, together with our privacy policy, shall constitute the entire agreement between you and us in relation to your use of our services and shall supersede all previous agreements between you and us in relation to your use of our services.
10. Severability
10.1 If a provision of these terms and conditions is determined by any court or other competent authority to be unlawful and/or unenforceable, the other provisions will continue in effect.
10.2 If any unlawful and/or unenforceable provision of these terms and conditions would be lawful or enforceable if part of it were deleted, that part will be deemed to be deleted, and the rest of the provision will continue in effect.
11. Jurisdiction
Any and every claim or legal dispute connected to the House membership program shall be subject to the laws of Germany. Each member agrees to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Germany.
